Safety & Security
Every woman has the right to live her life safely and free of violence. Intimidation, sexual harassment, human trafficking and violence against women in public life and as a result of intimate parter abuse deny our basic human right for safety and security.
The rise of gun violence in society and schools threatens women and our children and makes our public spaces unsafe. And the use of AI to create and share non-consensual intimate images of women and girls, demand we establish protections against predators in the digital world.
Did You Know …
Changing our culture of violence against women won’t be easy but together we can fight for our basic rights to be safe in our houses, schools, workplace and third spaces.
Sexual Harassment & Assault
Believe women. Stories of sexual harassment and assault are commonplace for women operating in their power and spaces traditionally dominated by men. We take precautions daily to remain safe from predators but in a society that encourages intimidation, threats and physical violence, our lives and livelihood are at stake.
Domestic Violence
Intimate partner violence is underreported, and yet when women try to escape their circumstances, they lack the requisite economic supports to keep them safe and stable. With domestic violence shelters and service providers under strain due to government funding reductions, women lack viable alternatives when escaping dangerous situations at home and often face consequences from family and friends when sharing the truth of their experience.
Gun Violence
America has a gun problem. According to the CDC, firearms are the leading cause of death for young people aged 1-17 surpassing car accidents and overdoses. And abusers’ access to firearms increases the risk of intimate partner femicide at least fivefold. Given the gender-specific pattern of gun violence, women and our children are at risk when we do not have common sense gun laws.
