Meeting of the General Assembly’s Interim Committee on Elections

  • Indiana State House, House Chambers, 3rd floor 200 West Washington Street Indianapolis, IN, 46204 United States (map)

We’ve got a great opportunity to push back against attempts to suppress the vote and call attention to the need to make voting more accessible in Indiana. Julia Vaughn, policy director for Common Cause Indiana, will be testifying at the Interim Committee on Elections at their September 26th meeting about changes made to the elections laws that have impacted Hoosier voters and a big public turnout will help her make this point.

The committee’s charge is to examine policy changes made since 2000 that have impacted Hoosier voters. She'll be mentioning several things, including the 2011 redistricting that has left too many districts in our state uncompetitive, changes made to the satellite voting approval process that has resulted in only one satellite voting location in Indiana’s largest county and a recent law change that allows the state to bypass required federal procedures for voter list maintenance.

Julia will also talk about more than just administrative changes. She'll urge the committee to endorse long overdue changes in campaign finance and disclosure laws so that Hoosier voters can believe that they, and not big money, are in control of elections in Indiana.

This is an important conversation for our state to have – will you join us next Tuesday and add your voice to those calling for more accessible and meaningful elections in Indiana?
