Indy Government 101

Please join Women4Change and Beth White, Executive Director of the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee to learn about government in central Indiana. Indy Government 101 consists of three sessions: The first will dive into the structure of government in Indiana, the second will go into the process of electing our government officials, and the third will explain the Brookings report and the challenges our city faces.

Elizabeth “Beth” White is currently the Executive Director of the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee, a position she has held since April 2016. White is deeply committed to public safety, advocacy for children, and voting rights. She has an extensive history as an elected and appointed official. White most recently served two terms as Marion County Clerk. She also served as Director of Constituent Services, Public Access Counselor, and Deputy Corporation Counsel in the administration of Mayor Bart Peterson and as chief legal counsel for the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

Previously, White was chief legal counsel at the Marion County Office of Family and Children and Deputy Prosecutor in the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. She chaired Marion County’s Advisory Council for Polling Place Accessibility, Marion County’s Information Technology Board, Marion County Public Records Commission, and the Indiana Clerks Association’s Legislative Committee. White was also a member of the Marion County Criminal Justice Planning Council and the Board of the Julian Center.

White received her BS with High Distinction from Indiana University-Bloomington and her Juris Doctor with honors from the Georgetown University Law Center. She currently serves on the Indianapolis Public Schools Educational Foundation Board, is associate faculty at IUPUI-SPEA, and is an active member of Central Christian Church. White lives in the Irvington neighborhood of Indianapolis with her husband and young son.
